Alumni Spotlight: Lydia Wonham

Lydia attended ISS from 2008-2013 and is a Manchester-based, classically trained soprano who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music until 2019. Her a cappella group, The Apex Singers, recently released a folk album ‘Hiraeth’ and a festive EP ‘Snowed In’. “I am always versatile and excited to explore new styles as an artist, partly because I was encouraged to embrace all elements of performing while I was at ISS. From choir and band, to the brilliant musicals… there was always so much going on!”

One of her favourite ISS memories is visiting Austre Åmøy where she saw the Iron Age rock carvings of long boats and monsters which really captured her imagination. As well as pursuing a singing career, Lydia also works as pastoral staff at Chetham’s School of Music. Her job is to take care of the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the children that board there.
