SPORTS & ATHLETICS

Spanning from the Primary School through the High School, sports are an intrinsic part of the overall curriculum at the International School of Stavanger (ISS).

The ISS Athletic Department is committed to providing students with opportunities to participate in and enjoy sports, as well as experience the benefits of teamwork, competition and self-discipline.

While ISS has a variety of interscholastic and co-curricular sports for all ages, the ISS Athletic Department offers sports in each season for Middle and High School students:

Fall/Autumn Sports

  • Boys football/soccer
  • Cross country running
  • Girls volleyball

Winter Sports

  • Basketball
  • Swimming

Spring Sports

  • Girls football/soccer
  • Track and field
  • Golf

Teams for each of these sports participate in local competitions as well as the NECIS (Northwestern European Council of International Schools) tournament.

Coaches and Players

The coaching staff, mostly consisting of qualified ISS employees, strives to be positive role models for their teams. They are focused on competing well and winning, but, more importantly, developing character and ensuring a fun experience for all. Our athletic programme is proud of the many ISS athletes who – win or lose – regularly demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship in their athletic endeavors.

Philosophy

Participation and inclusion are fundamental aspects of the ISS Athletic Department. ISS coordinates schedules closely so students can participate in other co-curricular activities across the school. While teams are selected with a competitive spirit in mind, there is a spot for everybody in the current athletic programme.

The athletic programme adheres to the ISS philosophy, mission and vision and all school policies, rules, and regulations.

ISS’ onsite facilities include:
