On the 26th and 27th of March over 150 students from 11 schools around Norway gathered at ISS for the 6th annual Scandinavian Model United Nations (SCANDMUN) conference. The theme of the conference was Ensuring Global Security for a Better Tomorrow and this year SCANDMUN was bigger than ever with an additional day of debating and two new fora, the Special Conference and the Security Council. Students were very fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to two excellent keynote speeches delivered by Dr. Paul Magnus Hjertvik Buvarp of Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt and Admiral Jan Christian Kaack of the German Navy. Each committee had different topics of global importance and delegates had the opportunity to debate one resolution per topic which they created collaboratively through the lobbying process. Participants had the opportunity to develop their skills in the fields of collaboration, preparation, public speaking, research, critical thinking and compromise while having fun in the process.
