In February, our Preschool community organised “Operation Hå”, a charity project to support the people staying at Hå mottaksenter. Hå mottaksenter is a temporary residence for refugees, currently seeking asylum here in Norway. It is located in Hå kommune in Rogaland, out in Jæren (about a 40 minute drive from school). Some of the residents have been there for several years but all eventually hope to move out and move on within Norway. Presently, there are about 154 refugees awaiting asylum at Hå mottakssenter. This includes 40 children, from the age of 1 month to 14 years, young adolescents and adults from numerous unstable and unsafe contexts. The Preschool team recognizes that the act of giving, and not just receiving, is also a very important and worthy lesson for our Preschool students. We feel strongly about reinforcing this act of giving to our children and to help them better understand why and how to help people in need, even here in Norway.
