The High School (HS) at the International School of Stavanger caters to young adults from 14-18 years of age (Grades 9-12). It is an international community with a diverse and open-minded student body.

Our objective is to provide a first-class, university-preparatory education and prepare all students for global participation by helping them become responsible, empowered learners. How do we accomplish this? By:

• Providing holistic academic programmes taught by some of the best and most supportive teachers in the international setting
• Having a dedicated University and Career Counselling Office
• Encouraging students to reflect on their own learning and develop an awareness of their own learning strategies
• Developing collaborative, creative, critical thinking and technological skills
• Valuing the whole child and encouraging students to lead physically and emotionally healthy, ethical, active and balanced lives
• Providing a range of courses so students can pursue their interests, strengths and passions
• Helping to build confidence and self-esteem so they are more effective learners
• Celebrating the spirit of belonging and community at the school, local and global levels

The High School curriculum offers a wide variety of courses to meet the needs of our students:

• Courses in Grades 9 and 10 give students the opportunity to enter for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations through the University of Cambridge.
  In Grades 11 and 12, students follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which is internationally recognised as an excellent preparation for university studies.

All students earn an ISS High School diploma (equivalent to a North American High School diploma) and nearly all also earn the IB Diploma, which grants Norwegian “studiekompetanse” and is considered an international passport to university in Norway and abroad.

As a school with an established IGCSE programme (30+ years) and IB Diploma programme (20+ years), we take a lot of pride in the results our students get in international examinations, which are consistently above average. What makes our academic programme distinctive?

Alongside academically challenging courses, ISS students find opportunities to enrich their learning locally and globally through service learning and community involvement as well as educational travel.

They also participate in many sports and co-curricular activities. Several of these activities, such as NECIS (Northwest European Council of International Schools, sports league), ISTA (International Schools Theater Association), AMIS (The Association for Music in International Schools) and MUN (Model United Nations), involve interaction and participation with other international schools abroad.
