SCANDMUN 2025: A Powerful Weekend of Student-Led Global Diplomacy

Last weekend, our school, ISS, underwent a remarkable metamorphosis, becoming a vibrant epicenter of international diplomacy as we proudly hosted the Scandinavian Model United Nations (SCANDMUN) 2025! For a few electrifying days, the familiar halls transformed into a dynamic forum where over 250 students, representing 17 schools, passionately engaged in confronting pressing global challenges.

The atmosphere was charged with intellectual energy as students simulated the complex workings of the United Nations. The Lysefjorden meeting room buzzed as the Security Council, the Theatre echoed with the General Assembly, the Primary School Gym became the Human Rights Council and the Library transformed into the Economic and Social Council. Each venue witnessed intense debates and insightful discussions that showcased the students’ profound understanding of global affairs.

Our own ISS students played a pivotal role in the triumph of SCANDMUN, with approximately 50 students demonstrating exceptional critical thinking and leadership. They grappled with complex and often heart-wrenching topics such as ethnic cleansing, the situation in Gaza, the persistent inequality faced by women in the workplace, and the pervasive discrimination in healthcare. It was a truly inspiring experience to witness their dedication and unwavering passion for understanding and addressing these critical global issues.

SCANDMUN provided an unparalleled opportunity for students to refine their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking, while also gaining a deeper, more nuanced understanding of international relations. The conference fostered a powerful spirit of collaboration and open dialogue, encouraging students to challenge their perspectives and work tirelessly towards finding innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems.

We extend our deepest congratulations to all the students, teachers, presenters and the tireless organizers who made SCANDMUN such a resounding event. We are immensely proud of the dedication, unwavering hard work and intellectual brilliance displayed by everyone involved. This extraordinary weekend served as a potent reminder of the importance of global citizenship and the transformative potential of young people to forge a positive impact on the world.

We eagerly anticipate the next SCANDMUN, confident that it will continue to ignite the passion for global engagement in our students.
