Isabelle Duncan, who attended ISS between 2008 and 2010, saw the power of collaboration and developed a big interest in humanitarian aid in our Middle School. While she was working as a Midwife in the UK, Isabelle heard about Northern Lights Aid, the NGO that is supported by ISS. She was impressed by how the organisation’s projects empower beneficiaries and promote integration with the community. Isabelle has been volunteering with NLA in Northern Greece where the team has been working on several projects including:
- A free clothing store which provides winter essentials. This is vital as temperatures have been down to -7 Celsius at night.
- A baby store which equips mothers with much needed items including nappies, wipes and clothes.
- A workshop which runs creative projects including sewing and woodwork. These sessions are often led by residents in the camp who are highly skilled.
- Registration for English classes
Ahead of the annual sponsored run at ISS, Isabelle wants to highlight the impact the fundraising for Northern Lights Aid has in supporting refugees and asylum seekers.
